KARGIL: In connection to 18th Kargil Vijay Diwas Anniversary Indian Army organised a programme at Lamuchan Dras on Tuesday.
During the programme Lt Gen D. Anbu, GOC-in-C Northern command was the Chief Guest while Commander 14th Corps Lt Gen. P.J.S Pannu, GOC 8 Mountain Div Major General CP Cariappa and other army officers, war veterans and martyr’s widows and sons were also present.
Meanwhile, army has presented detailed presentation about the Kargil War and the places where Pakistani Army infiltrated and occupied in 1999. During the programme army veterans expressed their feelings being in Drass after 18th years of Kargil war and shared their experience with the gathering who were present.
Speaking on the gathering an army veteran said that for him visiting Kargil is like a Yatra. He said, “I visit Kargil every year, although I have seen 1962 ,65 and 71 wars but this Kargil war has united us and now Kargil is not a story about war but a feeling and a sentiment for us”.
Other family members of the martyrs also expressed their views on this occasion and termed the moment as “proudful” for them. Earlier, yesterday colourful cultural programmes were presented and traditional games were played in which local polo teams participated.
Its pertinent to mention here that tomorrow will be the final programme of Kargil Vijay Diwas in which Lt Gen D. Anbu GOC-in-C Northern Command is likely to address media.
