Srinagar: The Army on Thursday foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, killing three terrorists.
According to a defence spokesperson, the troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC and challenged the intruders which led to a firefight. “An infiltration bid has been foiled in Gurez sector. Three terrorists have been killed,” he said, adding the operation was in progress.
Meanwhile, at least two army jawans were injured in a terror attack in Materbugh area of Shopian on Thursday evening, Police said. According to police, security forces were fired upon by terrorists near Chakora village of Shopian district. “A joint combing and search operation party of Jammu and Kashmir police’s Special Operation Group and Army’s 62 Rashtriya Rifles was attacked by heavily armed terrorists after they were returning back from Materbugh,” a senior police official said, adding, “The party was part of the combing and search operation conducted in the area earlier today.” “During the terror attack, two Army jawans sustained minor injuries and were rused to nearby hospital for treatment,” the official said.
He also said that the area has been cordoned off and searches mounted to trace the terrorists. “Unfortunately, terrorists managed to flee after taking advantage of darkness,” the official said. However, Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said “no soldier was injured” in the attack. SP, Inspector’s houses ransacked; cop shot at Late on Thursday night, Hizbul terrorists attacked a Police Station and ransacked houses of several Police officials including one SP and one Inspector.
Official sources told Jkpages that a group of terrorists barged into the residence of Dawood Ayub, SP Headquarters Srinagar, at Khudwani in Kulgam district and harassed his family members. According to reports from Kulgam, the gunmen ransacked the SP’s house. Dawood was in Srinagar when the incident occurred at his home. Khudwani is in the midst of a terrorists stronghold.
In the same neighbourhood at Arwani, unidentified gunmen barged into the house of Inspector Illyas and caused harassment to his family members. Reports said that his house was also ransacked. Officials said that Inspector was not present at his home when the gunmen came looking for him. Not far away from Khudwani and Arwani, a group of gunmen trooped into the residences of two Constables at Mirhama (Bijbehara) and ransacked their houses besides harassing the inmates. Both the policemen were reportedly at their places of posting.
At Yamrach in Kulgam district, another group of gunmen barged into the residence of Constable Saleem Yousuf and fired upon him. Reports said that Saleem sustained gunshot injuries. At Buchru in Kulgam, a group of gunmen appeared at the residence of a counter-insurgent, namely Hilal Ikhwani, and ransacked his house. Ikhwani was reportedly at his official residence at Khannabal, Anantnag. Sources said that another group of gunmen opened bursts of AK-47 gunfire on Police Station Shopian and escaped before the sentries retaliated. Unconfirmed reports said that the gunmen also fired toward a CRPF bunker in Shopian and security forces returning from a search operation, at Chakora Shopian. However, nobody was reported injured in these attacks.
